So What Should I Be Reading On the Beach?

I am heading out tomorrow to pick up a copy of David Weinberger’s “Everything is Miscellaneous” and I am going to scrounge through the dumpsters in Silicon Valley looking for a copy of Andrew Keen’s book “The Cult of the Amateur” (jk, I have to buy it unfortunately).  The thing is, I really want a great summer read, a piece of fiction ideally (other than Harry Potter, which comes out after the wedding).  Kristie is going to be busy reading me her favorite book, “The Riot Act”…

So what is your recommended summer read? What should I buy?

I have been totally digging the “Dresden Files” series of novels by Jim Butcher (the first one is called “Storm Front”). Yes, they made it into a TV series. No, you should not judge the books by the poor quality of the TV series. Essentially, imagine that Harry Potter grows up, moves to Chicago, and has to get a job… but his only marketable skill is magic. So he gets a Private Investigator license and puts an ad in the Yellow Pages, under “Wizards.” They’re fun. 🙂

    Great summer reads:

Tom Perrotta, The Wishbones (http://urltea.com/uzp) – about a guy who’s sorta drifting and is the anchor of a Jersey wedding band. Excruciating and funny.

Bruce Jay Friedman, “About Harry Towns” (http://urltea.com/uzt) – Just pure comic genius.

Easily Richard Morgan, Altered Carbon. You’ll love it, it’s Hard Core SF and Quentin Tarantino combined.
